Our ecologists are also project managers who have an in-depth understanding of applied ecology, allowing them to provide relevant, robust, and practical advice for ecological planning, monitoring, and implementation.

Warren McLean

Senior Contracts Manager, Kūmānu Conservation

Warren’s career to date has always been in management roles involving contracts from small businesses to large multi-national commercial and industrial organisations across a range of different industries.

This involves management of all staff, services and resources to successfully deliver on contract terms.

Warren has extensive experience in Financial, team management, business development and an emphasis in the delivery of proactive and astute asset management services.


Mark Solly

Operations Manager - Arboriculture, Landscape Maintenance & Local Conservation Reserves

As Operations Manager in Nelmac Greenspace Mark oversees the work of the Arboriculture and Landscape Maintenance teams.

Mark works closely with his team leaders to ensure a high standard of service is provided for Nelmac’s clients including local government, commercial and private clients. His role includes client liason, staff management and assisting with quoting and tender preparation.

Mark has been involved in Arboricultural and Amenity Horticulture for over 25 years, starting as a landscape gardener and worked his way to his current role, gaining valuable industry knowledge and experience on the way



Nick Latter

Operations Manager, Biosecurity

With over 19 years experience in the pest industry, Nick has adopted a wealth of experience & knowledge across all aspects of the pest industry.

Nick is an experienced operations manager with excellent business, client and project management skills. Nick is Action-oriented with a strong ability to communicate effectively with technology, executive, and business audiences.

With a background in managing his own pest control business, Nick knows what it takes to deliver successful projects. Combining his technical knowledge with his business sense he always has the client at the forefront. He’s solutions focused, ensuring project outcomes are achieved within budget and on time.


Jared Waters

Contract Manager - Monitoring

Jared is our Monitoring contracts Manager. Jared has over 12 year’s experience managing landscape construction projects and more recently large-scale pest control operations for TBfree NZ and Regional Councils. Jared has been working for Kumanu’s Conservation team for three years. His varied experience includes all aspects of construction landscaping, back-country field work, Geospatial Information System operator, Tender writing and project reporting, Quality Assurance, Health and Safety.

Jared brings extensive knowledge and experience of project management and a talent for finding practical solutions to projects undertaken by Kumanu.

Tracks & Ecology

Our Ecology team is led by Senior Ecologist Hadyn. Also home to a robust team of over 20 field staff to
carry out field work.


Hadyen Butler

Senior Ecologist & Contract Manager - Tracks

Hadyn is an Ecologist with over 8 years’ experience working for local and central government, and as in independent consultant. Prior to joining Kumanu in 2016 he worked for Greater Wellington Regional Council, and the Ministry for Primary Industries.

His experience includes the design, delivery and reporting of ecological restoration programmes; development of environmental management plans and strategies; assessment of environmental effects for resource consent processes, and field work in freshwater, terrestrial and marine environments.

Hadyn brings extensive knowledge and experience of ecological management and a talent for finding practical solutions to projects undertaken by Nelmac.

Steph Drewery

Nursery Manager

Steph is an experienced and qualified horticulturalist with over 15 years in the industry. Originating from the UK, Steph moved to New Zealand in 2003 and settled here to continue working in the horticultural industry. Steph has owned her own businesses specialising in bed maintenance and planting plans, she has also worked for numerous landscaping companies and nurseries which has contributed to her practical foundation of knowledge

Steph manages Nelmac’s Nursery which propagates Eco-sourced native plants. Being responsible for the propagation of up to 300, 000 annually, Steph’s management skills, plant knowledge and propagation expertise ensures this is made possible.
